New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft: Kaleb Wesson is a compelling sleeper
By Nick Alvarez
Ohio State’s Kaleb Wesson is an intriguing sleeper that the New Orleans Pelicans can target in the 2020 NBA Draft
By now it’s no secret that the New Orleans Pelicans are hunting for another big man in the 2020 NBA Draft. Anyone who watched the Pelicans last season could tell you that they desperately need another big because even though Derrick Favors played admirably last season, he’s due for a raise in free agency.
Considering their financial situation, the Pelicans only option for finding a cheap but quality replacement for Favors is in the draft, but where?
In assessing this draft class, I’ve determined that the class is stronger on guards and wings then it is big men. With the modern NBA valuing skill and shooting more than ever, I don’t think the Pelicans should use a first-round pick on a big in this draft. There are too many skilled players at other positions who’d also help the team that makes it inexcusable for them to reach for a big man.
That’s why I believe the team’s best route is to aim for a big man in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft. If they do that, then the team might find some value by looking at Ohio State’s Kaleb Wesson.
A 21-year old junior, Wesson is a player with some ideal traits the New Orleans Pelicans need in their big man rotation next season. He’s a prospect who’s not getting a lot of talk but shows upside and little risk as a second-round selection. Let’s take a look at how he fits the New Orleans Pelicans.
