New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft: Conditioning is a major concern for Kaleb Wesson at the NBA level

Kaleb Wesson’s Weaknesses

The unfortunate thing about evaluating Kaleb Wesson’s game is his body. It’s a shame that we have to talk about it for prospects, but it’s a real concern for Wesson.

At 6’9″, Kaleb Wesson weighs in at a monster 270 lbs where he played at comfortably last season. That worked for Wesson at Ohio State playing slower shorter games in the NCAA, but will that weight work in the NBA?

Adding to these concerns is the fact that just a few years ago, Wesson was 320 lbs and virtually immobile. Many teams will be concerned about Wesson’s ability to keep weight off and maybe even tone down more at the next level.

Outside of weight, 6’9″ is a slight concern for a center. I’d say most teams in today’s NBA, including the New Orleans Pelicans, are using smaller more skilled bigs but the concern is still there.

Then there are the athletic concerns, Wesson will never be a player to attack above the rim or sprint cross court and that’ll become a serious question if Wesson’s playing in transition situations.

Now, of course, what we’ve all been waiting for, how Kaleb Wesson could fit the New Orleans Pelicans roster. Here’s my evaluation.
