New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft: A giant point guard sleeper for the 2nd round
New Orleans Pelicans: Abdoulaye N’Doye could be an impact role player
How Abdoulaye N’Doye fits on the Pelicans
The New Orleans Pelicans may need a backup point guard depending on what they do with free agent Frank Jackson.
If they keep Jackson, then they might be set, but they could still add another point guard to protect against an injury or trade.
Abdoulaye N’Doye has the potential to be that guy, as he offers some things the Pelicans need in a backup. First off, he can create his own offense and get his own buckets, which is something the second unit lacked.
The Pels’ bench was filled with shooters but no one who could create off the bounce. N’Doye creates mismatches with his size and those floaters and runners could provide some instant offense when things go stagnant in the half-court.
He would also allow the Pelicans to create a lot of mismatches with their bench, as few teams have a backup point guard who can defend someone with a 7-foot-2 wingspan.
His dribble penetration could also be used to set up shooters like J.J. Redick and Nicolo Melli, who could be effective pick-and-roll partners with a giant point guard who can penetrate.
Second-round picks are generally where teams will take chances on prospects who may have some glaring weaknesses but one elite NBA skill. N’Doye has the size to be an elite finisher at the rim, which is where he’ll earn his salary if he makes the NBA.
The New Orleans Pelicans have a chance to add some impact talent in the 2nd round of the NBA Draft and taking a huge point guard with professional experience may be the way to do it.
