The New Orleans Pelicans should stay away from these three players in the NBA Draft.

The New Orleans Pelicans have four picks in the upcoming NBA Draft and are hoping to find some impact talent to deepen their roster.

With little money to spend in free agency, the Pelicans will need to hit home runs in the draft or try to make a trade of one of their current players.

Trading someone like Jrue Holiday seems less likely now that the Pels have hired Stan Van Gundy, who has spoken highly of the veteran and will probably want to keep him around.

They could trade Lonzo Ball, who is in the final year of his deal, but it will be hard to get a good return after he played poorly in the bubble.

Barring one of these types of trades and one or two low-level free-agent acquisitions, the Pelicans are going to have to fill out their roster using the NBA Draft.

Every year, impact players are missed in the draft, usually because a team chooses someone who is younger, has tantalizing athletic ability or plus-size.

The New Orleans Pelicans need to avoid the common traps that cause teams to overlook good players for shiny prospects and there are plenty of both in this year’s draft.

If the Pelicans want to get the most out of their four draft picks, then they should avoid these three players, who represent some of the common mistakes teams make in the draft.
