The New Orleans Pelicans can add toughness to their team by considering Mississippi State’s Reggie Perry in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft

What makes the NBA’s elite teams stand head-and-shoulders above the rest of the league? Ask that question to a dozen people and you’ll get a dozen different answers. Ask me, and I’ll tell you it’s toughness. That’s why I’ve written all offseason that the New Orleans Pelicans need to get tougher.

I know, toughness isn’t a measurable quality, but there’s something to be said about NBA teams that can grind out games when they need to be. It’s clearly a winning trait, even if it’s not measurable. The teams that will put the dirty work on the boards, or dive for loose balls and take charges, are the teams that win.

The New Orleans Pelicans lacked that quality last season, and with the hiring of Stan Van Gundy, they hope that they’ll attain it in this one. One way I think the organization can help Van Gundy attain toughness out of the Pelicans is for the team to draft some tough players in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Who would I qualify as tough? Well, how about Mississippi State sophomore Reggie Perry? A bit of a sleeper in this year’s draft, Reggie Perry is exactly the bruiser that I could see improving the New Orleans Pelicans.

An imposing, and underrated big man, there’s a lot of grit and upside in Reggie Perry’s game. As a player who might be available to the New Orleans Pelicans in the second round of the draft, let’s analyze how Perry could fit with the team if they select him.
