New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft: Reggie Perry could excel as a rotation player in Stan Van Gundy’s system

Reggie Perry’s fit on the Pelicans

With Stan Van Gundy now coaching the Pelicans, I could see Reggie Perry finding a major rotation role with the team if they draft him.

My reasoning for this is exclusively on the offensive end of the floor right now. When watching Perry play, you can tell that he has the offensive skillset that Van Gundy likes to see in his big men. Play Perry at center and you’ll get a physical scorer who will find his way into the paint to score at the rim.  Decide to put Perry at power forward and Van Gundy could take advantage of his growing 3 point shot and get a corner 3 assassin.

Perry’s defense will have to improve for him to get minutes on the floor under Van Gundy, but I think Van Gundy would be the perfect coach to get him to improve his fundamentals and play with more discipline.

One thing is certain though, Perry won’t give and he’ll always work to compete when he’s on the floor and that makes him exactly that type of player that the Pelicans want to bring into their program and growing culture.

A versatile big man fit for Stan Van Gundy’s system who also exudes toughness whenever he’s on the court. He already sounds like a fan-favorite in the making for the New Orleans Pelicans fanbase, and that’s why I think he could be a great fit for the team in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft.
