The New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly shopping Jrue Holiday for a trade, which makes sense.

The New Orleans Pelicans are in an interesting position this offseason. They want to win now but don’t have a lot of ways to improve their roster outside of a trade for one of their veterans including Jrue Holiday.

If the Pelicans give Brandon Ingram a max extension as is expected, they will have next to no cap space remaining to sign free agents.

That is why it is not surprising that Shams Charania announced that the Pelicans are shopping Jrue Holiday:

This news isn’t completely surprising, as Holiday has been rumored to everyone from the Nuggets, to the Heat, and even to the Lakers (no chance.)

Holiday is not only a great two-way player but also a fan favorite who has done a lot for the city of New Orleans, so trading him is not going to be an easy pill to swallow for the franchise or the fans.

From a basketball standpoint, there is really no reason to trade Holiday, as he is the type of player who can fit on just about any roster, which is one of the reasons he is such a popular trade target.

The reasons trading Holiday makes sense have nothing to do with his fit as a basketball player, but there are other reasons to trade him.
