New Orleans Pelicans rumors: Trading Jrue Holiday is a smart move

The Roster

Currently, the Pelicans roster is not balanced and it showed in the bubble.

The Pelicans simply didn’t have the size to hang with the bigger Western Conference teams, have too many guards, not enough forwards and not enough big men in the paint. The proof is that Holiday, who is a plus defender, was forced to guard wings most of the time.

They really need to add depth at both forward positions, center and point guard, which is going to be next to impossible in just the draft and free agency.

Even if the Pels were to find an impact player or two in the draft, that still leaves several holes to fill and not much money to do it.

The value of Jrue Holiday is that trading him opens up a wealth of possibilities in free agency, especially if they can trade him to a team with cap space.

Trading Holiday isn’t just about what they would get back now, but what they could do with those pieces/picks in the future.

If the Pelicans could trade Jrue Holiday for two players and a pick, they could improve their roster depth and talent and still pick up future assets for another trade.

The only way the New Orleans Pelicans get the roster balance they need is by trading Holiday but there are other reasons.
