New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft: Daniel Oturu

Daniel Oturu

Oturu is the perfect prospect to symbolize how the NBA has changed. 20 years ago, a 7-footer who averaged 20.1 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game would be in the running for the #1 pick.

As is stands, Oturu is predicted to go in the second round, and the Pelicans are one of the teams he’s been mocked to by draft experts.

Oturu is primarily viewed as a rim protector but he does have some stretch-five potential as well. He shot 36.5 percent from 3-point range in college on 1.7 attempts per game and has been working on his shooting during the offseason.

Oturu definitely needs to work on his handles, as he turns the ball over way too much, but he is a tenacious rebounder and a guy who will be disruptive at the rim.

If he continues to expand his range and accuracy, Oturu could end up being one of the steals of the draft, a big rim protector who can spread the floor, which is exactly what the New Orleans Pelicans need.

Center is a not a strong position in this NBA Draft but there are some guys who could definitely help the New Orleans Pelicans, especially in the second round.
