The New Orleans Pelicans can fill a need at point guard in the NBA Draft.

The New Orleans Pelicans are hoping to find some impact talent with their four picks in the NBA Draft.

They need depth at both forward positions, a center and possibly a backup point guard, which is not going to be easy considering they’ll have very little money to spend in free agency.

Point guard is arguably the deepest position in this year’s NBA Draft, so the Pelicans should be able to fill one of their needs if they want to go that direction.

The good thing about choosing a point guard is that they can likely get one with one of their second-round picks and still get an impact big man or wing in the lottery.

The three top point guards at the position are LaMelo Ball, Killian Hayes and Tyrese Haliburton, who are all likely to be gone when the Pelicans choose at 13. It might be a reach to take someone from the next tier, but then again, they might be able to get an impact backup in the second round since there are so many point guards in this draft.

Here are three guys who should all be available at 13 and one who will possibly slip into the second round.

Kira Lewis Jr.

I think Kira Lewis Jr. is a guy who has some Ja Morant potential. He doesn’t have great size, but he has blazing speed and plus athleticism that gives him the ability to score in many ways.

In addition to his elite, coast-to-coast speed which will immediately place him among the fastest players in the NBA, Lewis Jr. is a solid finisher at the rim, has great handles and projects as a guy who will thrive in the pick-and-roll.

If Lewis Jr. continues to develop his floater, he could be nearly unstoppable in the pick-and-roll with Zion Williamson, as he has the speed to beat just about anyone off the dribble.

His dribble penetration pulls defenders away from their men, which leaves spot-up shooters alone and creates lanes.

There is a lot to like about Kira Lewis Jr.’s offensive game, especially as a change-of-pace backup whose primary job would be to come in the game, run the offense, penetrate and kick to open shooters.
