Due to the sheer number of assets the Boston Celtics have, the New Orleans Pelicans like every team in the league should be watching them closely

No. 2- Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are a team to watch in this year’s draft solely because they have all the assets to make a game-changing move. In this draft, the Celtics have three-first round picks that fall at 14, 26, and 30. Adding to that impressive capital, the Celtics also have a pair of veteran stars they could move on from in Gordon Hayward and Marcus Smart, and some young players with value in a trade.

Obviously, with assets like that available, the Pelicans need to have their eyes out for the Boston Celtics. Reports are already suggesting that the Celtics want to trade all three of their picks in this draft to move into the top 3, which would make them a dangerous team going into next season.

If the Pelicans are lucky though, they could receive some of those assets if the Celtics turn their attention to Jrue Holiday.  Holiday is aging quickly, and his unselfish play might be a better fit with the Celtic’s roster than either Hayward or Smart. If moving into the top 3 fails, Boston might want to give the Pelicans a good deal for Holiday so they can shake up their roster.

Of course, Boston could go in a different direction too and make a move with another team that the Pelicans are competing with. If that’s the case, then Pelicans fans should be worried about their competition acquiring either more draft capital or some quality players.

Regardless of what happens, Danny Ainge has a reputation for making moves on draft night and whether those moves go for or against the Pelicans are an interesting development to track.
