New Orleans Pelicans trade rumors: Jrue Holiday to the Celtics or Hawks

Boston Celtics

We’ve outlined a number of trades to the Celtics since it was announced that they too were interested in Holiday and would clear their draft assets to get him.

This involves additional trades, as the Celtics would first have to trade their three first-round picks to move into the lottery.

In this trade, the Celtics have move up to #7 after trading three picks to the Detroit Pistons:

This would be a risk, as Gordon has a gruesome injury history but the Pels would get a solid wing who can score and make plays while also picking up the 7th pick in the draft.

Hayward makes more than Holiday but has one less year on his contract, which would give the Pels future cap flexibility.

They could get an impact big man or point guard in the draft and would be much deeper overall. It’s a risk, but one worth considering.

Atlanta Hawks

We’ve picked Atlanta as one of our top trade spots for Holiday, as they can send back less salary and potentially allow the Pels to build a very deep and talented team with the cap space and picks.

Two rotation players, the 6th pick and a ton of cap space sounds pretty good to me. This trade is more about what the Pelicans could do after, which could lead to a juggernaut.

I like Atlanta as a destination because this trade frees up a ton of cap space to sign a guy like Serge Ibaka.
