New Orleans Pelicans NBA Mock Draft 2020: Final Edition
The New Orleans Pelicans’ three picks will make for an exciting 2020 NBA Draft.
The New Orleans Pelicans now have more future draft picks than just about any team in the NBA, including three in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Barring any type of trade, the Pelicans will choose 13th, 24th and 39th after shipping Jrue Holiday and the 42nd and 60th picks to the Bucks in exchange for George Hill, Eric Bledsoe and a ton of draft picks.
The Pelicans could trade up with a team like the Pistons, who would love to add some additional picks in exchange.
But for the purposes of this final mock draft, we are going to assume that the Pelicans keep their picks, trying to add impact talent with #13 and #24.
With the #1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft…
New Orleans Pelicans NBA Mock Draft: Minnesota Timberwolves Pick #1
After all the talk and misdirection, the Minnesota Timberwolves will probably just take the player who most have as the #1 pick in the draft and that is LaMelo Ball.
Minnesota has a solid young core and all of them can score, so adding a pass-first point guard makes sense.
D’Angelo Russell, Karl-Anthony Towns and Malik Beasley are all high-volume shooters, and LaMelo is potentially a guy who could get them much better shots, especially in the open court.
There is no consensus number one pick in this draft, which is why the Timberwolves will probably bet on star power as much as talent. LaMelo is the flashiest name in this draft and will bring some attention to the oft-overlooked Timberwolves, who will be trying to make the leap into the playoffs.
I could also see the Timberwolves trading this pick if they really don’t like anyone and the Pels might be one of the teams to jump at the chance to take LaMelo.
This is the safest pick in a draft full of unknowns, as LaMelo should be at least as good as Lonzo Ball, and if so, he’d fit well with what the Wolves already have.
