New Orleans Pelicans NBA Mock Draft: Detroit Pistons pick #7

64. player. Killian Hayes. 7. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Point Guard / Ratiopharm Ulm. Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons obviously weren’t happy about dropping in the draft (again) and Pistons’ fans have to wonder if the league is out to get them, as they have yet to move up in a single NBA draft.

However, if things break this way, the Pistons will still be happy, as Killian Hayes might be the guy they would have taken anyway. Many people have him as the best prospect in this draft, so the Pistons would be ecstatic to get some potential high-ceiling talent.

Detroit would have liked to add someone with some star power, as they are desperately in need of it, but they are also in need of a point guard, and Hayes might end up being the best in this group.

Hayes is one of the youngest players in the draft, so he works on the same timeline as Sekou Doumbouya and potentially gives the Pistons two long, young players to build around.

Hayes’ shot needs work, but he is good just about everywhere else, can pass, make plays and get into the lane for his shot.

There might be other players who are more ready to play than Hayes, and this would be somewhat of a gamble for the Pistons with Okongwu and Okoro still available, but Hayes has the most star potential and the Pistons need stars.
