New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft: Kira Lewis Jr. does not fill a need

#2: The Pels have a lot of holes

When the Pels traded Jrue Holiday for two players and a load of picks, I figured both players would be wings or centers, not point guards.

The Pelicans definitely did not need another point guard and are still thin everywhere else. Brandon Ingram literally has no backup.

Zion Williamson is backed up by Nicolo Melli, a guy who can’t defend, or shoot, or do much of anything really.

20-year-old Jaxson Hayes is the only center on the roster and is definitely not ready to take over full-time duties there.

How in the world are the Pels going to fill out this roster?

They will have next to nothing to spend in free agency, they just traded away all of their picks, so barring a trade, the Pels don’t have many ways to add players after they extend Ingram.

They almost have to make a trade unless they want to run teams with Zion at center, Ingram at power forward with three guards. That is possible, but seeing the way the Pels were bullied last season, it doesn’t bode well for their chances to have nothing but guards.

I may eat my words when Griffin makes a big trade, but right now, this roster is way too guard-heavy and won’t be close to competing in the West where the teams are all huge.
