New Orleans Pelicans: Naji Marshall could be an undrafted gem
New Orleans Pelicans: Naji Marshall could make the roster and play
Naji Marshall’s fit on the Pelicans
The good news for Marshall is that the Pelicans have a lot of guards and no wings outside of Brandon Ingram.
They desperately need some size and defense on the wing, and if Marshall can provide it, he could potentially make this rotation in his first season unless the Pels make an additional deal.
Right now, their forward depth is thin with just Ingram, Zion Williamson and Nicolo Melli currently on the roster. With the news that Zylan Cheatham and Kenrich Williams were included in the Steven Adams four-team trade, the Pelicans are fresh out of wings.
At 22-years-old, Marshall has the experience and physique to step right in and play, especially if he can shoot with more consistency.
He is the type of intense, bulldog defender that the Pelicans lacked before getting Steven Adams, and he would fit well as a complement to Ingram on the wing.
Marshall is a low-risk opportunity for the Pelicans, as he fills a definite need and could get a chance to play right away if he performs well in training camp.
Naji Marshall could end up being one of the steals of 2020, a guy most teams passed on because he was a little too old. Their loss could be the Pels’ gain.
