New Orleans Pelicans: The Pels can play a variety of lineups

This Pelicans team is a guard-heavy team on paper. There are at least six guards that should be in the rotation.

The question is, “how will all these guards find a way into the rotation?”

The answer to that is that the Pelicans plan on running “position-less basketball” in which you could see three of these guards in the game at a given time.

For example, we could see a lineup of Kira, JJ, Zo, Zion, and Adams.

As long as you have a couple of bigs down there protecting the paint, 3 guards could easily move into a certain lineup.

According to David Griffin in a recent press conference, the two starting guards will be Lonzo Ball and Eric Bledsoe, which was most expected. Then you have Brandon Ingram on the wing and Zion and Steve down low.

Where they will decide to go from there is yet to be known.

This Pelicans roster will have a lot of options that they’ll be testing throughout the year to see what works and what doesn’t.

It seems like David Griffin is the headmaster of this “positionless basketball” idea, but I’m positive that Griffin and Stan are on the same page because if not, he wouldn’t have chosen Stan Van Gundy to lead the charge. All Stan’s job is to figure out how it will work best.
