New Orleans Pelicans: The Pels will play a unique style

Stan Van Gundy has mentioned a few times now that he wants this team to develop a new identity highly focused on toughness and competitiveness.

This Pelicans team will look to make a complete 180 from how they played last season. Giving up is not an option. Stan Van Gundy is the type of coach to sit you on the bench if you don’t come out playing with energy.

Defense has become a lost art in today’s day and age.

In the 90’s and early 2000’s, defense was much more prominent. The Pelicans will be moving back toward that style. Old-school.

Stan has also mentioned he plans on running more set plays and slowing down the game.

This could also be referred to as an “old-school style” because most teams these days play very fast and pull up 3-pointers within eight seconds.

One very important player is already on board with Stan’s coaching style.

It will be interesting to see how all of this comes together for the New Orleans Pelicans.

This season will be a year full of trial and error, but I believe it could end with a trip to the playoffs.
