New Orleans Pelicans FanSided 250: Was Zion Williamson snubbed?
Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans made the FanSided 250 list this year.
Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans is no stranger to making “best of” lists and this year is no different, as he found himself on FanSided 250, the ultimate list of fandoms.
This list took a look at different teams and individuals to decide who has the best and most dedicated fans. It used factors such as the fan vote, social media follows and overall search scores to put together the top 250 in entertainment and sports.
The list tries to quantify a subjective topic, which means there are always going to be arguments about who got snubbed and who should have been higher on the list.
Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans made the list under “Sports Figures,” a category he should do well in considering he is one of the most popular athletes in the NBA.
To give you an understanding of where some other NBA players ranked, Giannis Antetokounmpo was ranked 27th overall and #7 in Sports Figures. Luka Doncic was 13th overall and #5 in Sports Figures and LeBron James was 4th overall and #2 in Sports Figures behind Patrick Mahomes, which seems ridiculous given their difference in age and accomplishments.
But how about Zion Williamson?
New Orleans Pelicans FanSided 250: Where does Zion Williamson rank?
Zion Williamson made the list, which is pretty impressive considering he’s only played 24 games in the NBA.
Zion ranked 96th overall on the list and #18 in Sports Figures, which seems pretty fair given his age and lack of experience.
But then you look at some of the people around him. Trevor Lawrence? Sorry, but no college football player should be near Zion, especially one with that haircut.
I hate football so I am not even sure who Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow are, but they shouldn’t be ahead of guy who already goes by one name.
Then again, Zion Williamson was also ahead of some people on the FanSided 250 list who he shouldn’t have been. Serena Williams is #25 in sports figures? Huh?!? This is probably the most accomplished athlete of her generation and certainly in women’s tennis. She should beat a guy who has barely played, sorry.
Ultimately Zion Williamson’s ranking was both too low and too high depending on your point of view. He should climb this list quickly once the New Orleans Pelicans start winning.
