New Orleans Pelicans: Lofty goals for each of the team’s starters in 2021

Lonzo Ball should look to prove all of his doubters wrong by winning the NBA’s Most Improved Player award with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2021
Lonzo Ball- Win Most Improved Player
The other day we wrote about why Lonzo Ball has a chance to win the Most Improved Player award, and that’s why we’re setting that as his goal for 2021. Last season, Ball showed flashes of being the player people thought he could be in the NBA, but it’s safe to say he still hasn’t lived up to the billing of being the 2nd overall pick in the draft.
That could change this season if Lonzo Ball plays with more consistency. We all know, that the passing ability is there but it’s the other aspects of his game where we need to see more. Ideally, fans want to see Ball become a more aggressive and better overall scorer.
The hope is that Ball continues to shoot 3 pointers at a 38 percent clip while becoming a better finisher around the rim. In Stan Van Gundy’s offensive system that relies on spacing and pick-and-roll attacks, that could happen.
Add in Lonzo continuing to play good defense, and we could see the 23-year-old blossom into one of the NBA’s most complete guards. That would definitely put him in the running for the Most Improved Player award, and if the Pelicans can win next season, he could win it too.
It’s an impressive feat and one that should motivate Ball because winning that award would finally put him in the same category as his draft contemporaries, De’Aaron Fox and Jayson Tatum.
