The New Orleans Pelicans make this deal to add another talented player to their roster for a playoff run

Why the Pelicans make the deal

For the New Orleans Pelicans, this deal is about bolstering the lineup for a playoff run in the best way possible. The team currently does not have a lot of money to use so that means they need to target either low-price veterans or young underperforming players.

Robert Williams III would fall into the latter category, and even though he’s underperformed with the Celtics, I believe the Pelicans could get the best out of him. The reason why I think that is because Williams went to a young team in Boston with a coach who is more mild-mannered than most.

In New Orleans, Robert Williams III would have Steven Adams to mentor him, and he’d have Stan Van Gundy drilling him as a disciplinary. Those factors should improve his maturity issues and help him become a valuable piece to a contending team.

Looking on the court, I believe that Williams would be the perfect rim-running, shot-blocker to come off the bench for this team. Just imagine, having Zion Williamson and Robert Williams III in the frontcourt at times, suddenly the Pelicans would be high-flying and reminiscent of “Lob City”.

He’s a threat who’d be a little bit different from the current bigs the New Orleans Pelicans currently have on the roster and could help the Pelicans bolster their attack for the playoffs by doubling down on the current approach. Worth it in my book.
