New Orleans Pelicans: Early choices for Most Improved Player and MVP

Most Improved Player

Zion Williamson

Zion Williamson‘s name is not one that often comes up when discussing this award and I’m not sure why.

When people think of New Orleans Pelicans who could take home MIP, it’s Lonzo Ball whose name most often gets mentioned.

But if Zion Williamson stays healthy and plays 30 minutes a night, this award is absolutely his to lose.

If Zion ends up scoring nearly 30 points per game (which I predict he will) adds a few more rebounds and the Pels improve as a team, he will win Most Improved Player and you can take that to the bank (or your nearest bookie.)

Most Valuable Player

Luka Doncic

I should first say that I think Giannis should win this award if the two have similar seasons as last year. Luka is one of the best all-around offensive players in the league, if not the best, but his defense is not in the same realm as Giannis.

I think Luka will win this award because modern voters tend to get sick of voting for the same guy. Let’s face it, LeBron James should have a few more MVP’s and Michael Jordan got robbed of one mostly because voters wanted a new name.

Luka will put up huge numbers again, Dallas will be a top-4 seed in the West and he will be rewarded with his first MVP.

If the New Orleans Pelicans improve, they will be in the running for these awards for years to come.
