New Orleans Pelicans: The Pels need more big-man depth

Overreaction #2: The Pels need to make a trade!

This is not an overreaction. It’s time to panic.

Currently, the Pelicans only have two playable big men on their roster, Zion Williamson and Steven Adams.

Zion is not a great defender (more on that later) and Adams is unable to play every minute of the game, so the Pels need some depth behind them.

Nicolo Melli is terrible, sorry, but it’s true. Since February of last year, his shot has been lost somewhere in the Italian Alps and he has shot less than 20 percent from 3-point range.

He can’t guard anyone, so if he can’t make shots he can’t play.

Jaxson Hayes actually looks worse than last season. He was only able to play three minutes before Stan Van Gundy had to pull him, not a good sign when this is your primary backup center.

The Pelicans have too many guards and not enough wings and bigs, something we’ve been harping about since last season.

David Griffin’s offseason should be put under a microscope after he failed to get a single wing or big man to back up his starters.

The New Orleans Pelicans will have to make a trade to balance this roster, as Melli and Hayes are not answers.
