New Orleans Pelicans: Stan Van Gundy needs to fix the rotations

Overreaction #2: Stan Van Gundy’s rotations are a mess!

Stan Van Gundy was put in a tough spot when he took the New Orleans Pelicans’ coaching job.

He has a young team with five new players and he had about two weeks to prepare in a shortened offseason. The fact that the Pelicans are 2-2 is a testament to how good a teacher Stan Van Gundy is.

But right now his rotations are a mess. Part of it is getting to know the personnel and who fits together and part of it is that guys like Melli and Jaxson Hayes have been absolutely terrible, which makes things difficult.

One thing Stan Van Gundy has to do is ensure that one of Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram or Steven Adams is on the floor at all times. The minutes with all three on the bench are currently killing the Pelicans.

One of Lonzo or Ingram needs to be on the floor, as the Pelicans don’t have many other playmakers and teams are focusing on Zion Williamson.

For now, Stan Van Gundy either needs to shorten his bench or find someone who is willing to step up and earn minutes, even if that means playing Josh Hart at power forward or going with a four-guard lineup.

This will continue to be a problem until someone steps up or the Pelicans make a trade.
