New Orleans Pelicans: Grades for the 111-86 loss to the Phoenix Suns
New Orleans Pelicans vs. Phoenix Suns: Player Grades for the shooting guards
Shooting Guards
It was another quiet night for Eric Bledsoe, who, like Lonzo, finished with just seven points.
He only took five shots, which is a problem, as Bledsoe had some openings.
His shots haven’t been falling and it seems to have affected his confidence, as he was hesitant to shoot the ball last night, once passing up a wide-open bunny to kick out to a contested 3-point shooter.
Bledsoe is a veteran and his shooting averages will come back to the norm, but he has to be more aggressive and take those shots when the defense gives them to him.
I’ve been watching J.J. Redick for well over a decade and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him miss this many shots…. total.
Redick has struggled mightily to start the season, shooting just 29.2 percent from 3-point range, which is killing the Pelicans.
The Pels’ bench has been awful outside of Josh Hart, and when Redick does not hit shots, the Pels don’t have much offense.
Some of his shots have been off-balance or off the dribble but many have just been wide-open misses.
Redick will come around and has earned our patience, but it would be nice to see him knock down some shots against OKC.
It’s hard to say that anyone played good defense in this game, but Josh Hart was close.
He continues to be a non-factor on the offensive end, which is something that needs to change, as the Pels’ bench is struggling to score.
Hart only took two shots against the Suns and ended the game with three points and six boards. Hart has to become more of a threat on offense, as the Pels need some scoring punch off their bench.
*I’m not going to grade Nickeil Alexander-Walker’s mop-up minutes, but he may have shown enough to get some more run in the future.
