New Orleans Pelicans: Jaxson Hayes and Willy Hernangomez are not the answer

Not getting a competent backup center

Could someone explain to me why the New Orleans Pelicans signed Willy Hernagomez?

He has played no minutes, which leaves only 20-year-old Jaxson Hayes as the primary backup to Steven Adams.

In case you haven’t noticed, every time Adams leaves the floor the Pelicans stink. Hayes is fine as a project, but expecting him to fill this role was way too much to put on a kid who has barely played and not shown he can do it.

Hernangomez is only on a league-minimum contract but they could have signed Torrey Craig for the same money and he could help this team.

If they didn’t think Hernangomez could compete with a 20-year-old for minutes then why did they even sign him?

There are plenty of guys on veteran deals who might have played minutes for the Pelicans somewhere. Instead, we have Hernangomez glued to the bench doing nothing and the Pels have Josh Hart defending power forwards in the second unit.

Huge fail.
