New Orleans Pelicans: Trading for Derrick Rose makes sense

Why the Pistons would do it

Detroit has two reasons to trade Derrick Rose before the trade deadline:

-If they don’t, they will lose him to free agency in the offseason and get nothing

-He is taking minutes from their young guys

The Pistons don’t want to play their young guys until they’ve earned it but that will be impossible with Derrick Rose eating up minutes.

The Pistons can’t expect to get too much for Rose, but he has value, so other teams will be interested as well and Detroit may have a bidding war on their hands.

Detroit’s best-case scenario is that they get a promising young player or a first-round pick, but it’s tough to see anyone giving up a 1st rounder for Rose unless it is heavily protected.

In this case, the Pistons get back a player with upside in NAW who fits in with the sort of positionless basketball Detroit is trying to play.

NAW would get big minutes on the Pistons, possibly as the starter, especially after they lost rookie Killian Hayes to injury.

Detroit gets to take a chance on NAW’s upside and gets to clear minutes for their young players.

Would the Pels be interested?
