New Orleans Pelicans: Derrick Rose would make the bench much better

Why the Pelicans would do it

If the New Orleans Pelicans have any dreams of being a playoff team, then they have to do something to upgrade the bench, as this group is not getting it done.

Alexander-Walker has flashed signs that he can be a player but he is never going to put it all together playing sporadic minutes with no role.

I can’t see this changing in the future, as Kira Lewis Jr. is going to eventually be the point guard (at least the backup) and NAW doesn’t necessarily have a future place in the rotation.

Getting rid of Melli would be addition by subtraction for a guy that definitely needs a fresh start somewhere else.

Derrick Rose averaged 18 points in 26 minutes off the Detroit bench last season and the Pelicans do not currently have a player who can get them that kind of scoring consistently.

Adding Derrick Rose to the second unit gives the Pels a guy who can carry the offense for those few minutes when Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball go to the bench.

He could be deadly in the pick and roll with Zion Williamson and his dribble penetration would open up more shots for Redick.

It would be a low-risk move on the part of the New Orleans Pelicans, as Rose is paid just over $7 million this season and it’s not like NAW and Melli are exactly top prospects.

If the Pels could pry Rose away without giving up a first-round draft pick, they should consider it.
