The New Orleans Pelicans should alter their line-up against the Clippers
By Nick Alvarez
A small-ball approach by the New Orleans Pelicans could give the Los Angeles Clippers a lot of trouble
Let’s get the obvious point out of the way here first, this line-up gives the Pelicans a lot more spacing to work with. That’s something they’ll need against the Clippers who are a good 3 point shooting team.
Secondly, this starting line-up could also fix the Pelicans rotation woes of late. With Steven Adams (assuming his migraine issue has passed), and one of the Pelicans’ guards moving to the bench, the team will have a strong two-man game in their second unit.
Beyond that, a smaller line-up is more conducive against the Clippers’ own starting line-up. The Clippers prefer to play Patrick Beverly, Nic Batum, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and Serge Ibaka as their starting five. That line-up gives the Clippers optimal speed and shooting.
The Pelicans’ smaller line-up would mimic the Clippers’ well. Not only is it also a small-ball unit, but it’s one that allows the Pelicans to use Josh Hart as a defender against Paul George or Kawhi Leonard. Not to mention, Steven Adams can then step-up when the Clippers bring Ivica Zubac to the floor.
All-in-all, I think this move is Stan Van Gundy’s best shot at getting his team an important win tomorrow night. As we all know, a win against the Clippers will bring this team up to 5-5 and keep them in striking distance for a playoff spot.
