14. Atlanta Hawks (5-5)

The Atlanta Hawks were one of the winners of the offseason, and that’s carried into the NBA season too. A 5-5 record may not be anything to write home about, but it’s a major improvement from where this team was last season.

In my estimation, the Hawks are still figuring things out. They’re toying with lineups and trying to make decisions on some of their players’ futures. Specifically, John Collins, who likes an early-season trade candidate. I’d say with some more time, we might start seeing the Hawks unit get hot and make some noise in the Eastern Conference.

15. Charlotte Hornets (6-7)

Say what you want, but this Hornets team is winning, and they’re fun to watch. Who would’ve thought we’d be saying that in 2021? I didn’t, that’s for sure.

Seriously now, time to give credit where credit is due. The Hornets’ front office made some smart moves, drafting LaMelo Ball with the 3rd overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and signing former All-Star Gordon Hayward. Those moves have finally given head coach James Borrego a roster to work with, and he’s doing wonders. The Hornets are one of the best passing teams in the NBA, and they shoot the 3 ball pretty well too. It’ll be interesting to see if this Hornets team can make the playoffs in the East this year.

 16. New York Knicks (5-7)

WHAT? I know the New York Knicks are actually in a decent spot in our NBA Power Rankings for the first time in years. How is that even possible?

The answer is Leon Rose and Tom Thibodeau. Unlike past Knicks executives, Leon Rose didn’t go hunting for stars. Instead, Rose sought out a winning head coach in Thibodeau and opted to build a cohesive roster. His plan worked too, as Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, Obi Toppin, and Mitchell Robinson are all playing great ball under Thibodeau. Not to mention, Julius Randle is playing the best ball of his career right now. This Knicks team is gritty, and they might just make the playoffs for the first time in 6 years!
