New Orleans Pelicans vs. Los Angeles Lakers: Player Grades for the shooting guards

Shooting Guards

C-. . Shooting Guard. New Orleans Pelicans. ERIC BLEDSOE

Bledsoe has been suffering from an eye infection and it showed a few times last night, as it looked like he couldn’t see.

He let two balls go right between his legs early on and it was fair to question if those eyes were still bothering him.

Bledsoe may be coming off the bench regularly with NAW playing well, but the Pels need him either way.

F. . Shooting Guard. New Orleans Pelicans. JJ REDICK

One of the more annoying narratives lately is that “after a slow start, J.J. Redick is starting to heat up!”  Huh?

After one good game against the Hornets, Redick went 2-of-7 against the Clippers and 3-of-10 against the Lakers. Heating up indeed.

Redick’s minutes are hurting the Pelicans on both ends, and Stan Van Gundy needs to pay attention.

B-. . Shooting Guard. New Orleans Pelicans. JOSH HART

I have to give Josh Hart a lot of credit. He held his ground against LeBron James and later Anthony Davis, got after it on the boards, and played hard against his former team.

Hart has not shot the ball well this season and his shooting numbers are the worst of his career.

His defense and rebounding have been great, but the Pels need him to hit those open 3-pointers and right now he isn’t.

NAW started the game right where he left off against the Clippers, red hot.

But some old problems came back to haunt Alexander-Walker that put a damper on what was going to be another great game.

He had FIVE turnovers, one of the main reasons he hasn’t played much this season. NAW turns the ball over way too much.

The other problem is that he couldn’t stay no the floor. NAW was in foul trouble all night, and while some of them were questionable calls by the refs, others were just stupid fouls that NAW can’t commit.

The Pels needed his scoring last night and NAW looked ready to provide it, unfortunately, he was glued to the bench in foul trouble for most of the second half.
