I’m a big fan of Stan Van Gundy and think he has done a good job for the most part.
It’s not his fault that Redick and Melli can’t shoot, and it’s not his fault he had a shortened training camp to install his system.
Defensively, the Pelicans look a lot better and the credit has to go to SVG, but he also has to take some of the blame for the things that aren’t going well.

The Pelicans are still turning the ball over at a high rate and commit some of the dumbest, unforced turnovers I’ve ever seen.
They simply just throw it to no one about 3-4 times a game and that has to stop.
Also, what is with the rotations? Am I missing something with Nicolo Melli? Why was he on the floor for 21 minutes while Hayes sat on the bench?
Why does J.J. Redick continue to lead the team in minutes off the bench when he has had exactly two good games all season?
Why haven’t NAW and Kira Lewis Jr. played together? Speaking of NAW, why was he unable to get off the bench before Lonzo’s injury when he is very clearly their best second-unit scoring option?
I am still fully on board with the Stan Van Gundy era but the Pels have to clean up their turnovers and try something new with their bench, even if it means playing a rookie big minutes or giving one of the two-way players a chance.
The New Orleans Pelicans need to turn things around quickly. They have time, but the league is not going to wait for them to get right.
