New Orleans Pelicans: Grade for Stan Van Gundy vs. KIngs

The Coach

New Orleans Pelicans. STAN VAN GUNDY. B. . Head Coach

Stan Van Gundy would be the first to admit that he wasn’t happy with how his team defended against the Kings, particularly against De’Aaron Fox, who ended the night with 43 points.

The Pels and Kings always have these kinds of shootouts though and sometimes the best defense is just continuing to score on offense.

Stan Van Gundy has been put in a bad spot with a bench that has contributed next to nothing so far this season.

But I give him credit for continuing to tinker with rotations. Last night he used a Kira, Redick, Hart, Zion, Hayes lineup that was effective in the first quarter, though he may have milked it a bit too long.

I also give him credit for the recent improvements for Jaxson Hayes and NAW, who are both looking like solid rotation players.

SVG is still figuring this team out and they should get better as the season goes on and they have more regular rotations.

It was not the prettiest win but the Pels’ offense finally broke out of its funk and will look to carry that momentum into back-to-back games against the Jazz.
