New Orleans Pelicans: Keep mixing it up with Zion Williamson

More Zion Williamson

Stan Van Gundy said that he needs to make things easier for Zion Williamson and he has by allowing Zion to bring the ball up and trying to get it to him in spots other than the post.

Zion was nearly perfect against Sacramento, going 13-of-15 and hitting all five of his foul shots.

He started the offense from the wing and top of the key at times, which is smart because it allows him to get momentum before he gets into the lane.

Once Zion Williamson is going downhill, he is almost impossible to stop, and SVG has done well to get him the ball in those spots.

However, several times during the last game the Pelicans went to Brandon Ingram isolation, which seemed crazy considering how dominant Zion Williamson was.

I have no problem with Ingram getting plenty of shots of course, but I’d love the Pelicans to stop with the 5-6 minutes of isolation that they seem to go to in every game.

It really only leads to difficult shots, so why not run the offense more through Zion instead? As his game continues to evolve, Zion is becoming a better passer and is recognizing double teams much faster than he did in the past.

I’d like to see more of him handling the ball and less of Brandon Ingram isolations, which have not been effective and are usually at the heart of all the Pelicans’ scoring droughts.

The Pels need to string together some wins if they want to stay in the Western Conference playoff hunt. It would be nice to see a good defensive effort against Utah, as well as plenty of Kira Lewis Jr. and Zion Williamson.
