New Orleans Pelicans: Grades for blowout loss to the Utah Jazz
New Orleans Pelicans: Grade for Stan Van Gundy vs. Jazz
The Coach
Stan Van Gundy is nodding his head in agreement with this one, as he did not have a good game.
Look, Utah has a great defense but it was made easier by the fact that the Pels just stood around and literally did not run offensive sets.
I counted six plays in a row in the 3rd quarter where there were fewer than two passes during the offense, where four guys stood around and watched the other dribble the ball.
It was pathetic.
What happened to this team’s offense? I get that defense was the focus (although that hasn’t been much better) but this team has gotten significantly worse in every offensive category.
SVG had no answer other than to keep giving BI the ball in isolation. He has Lonzo Ball standing at the 3-point line and refused to try to insert Kira Lewis Jr. when the team desperately needed an offensive spark in the second half.
It’s not his fault that his players can’t make shots and if Lonzo, JJ and Hart were making them, things would look a lot different. But ultimately the coach has to take some of the blame for such a lackluster performance.
Stan Van Gundy needs to light a fire under this team even if it takes shaking things up and changing his rotations.
The New Orleans Pelicans have not been fun to watch. They need to turn things around before this season is lost.
