New Orleans Pelicans: Trading J.J. Redick to the Mavericks

I’ve written before that the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans could make good trade partners, as they both have something the other one needs.

Dallas ranks 25th overall in 3-point percentage and even though Redick has not been very good this season, he would still be an upgrade in that department.

Powell isn’t playing much at the moment for Dallas and is averaging nearly ten fewer minutes per game than he was getting last season.

Powell has mostly been the odd man out in the Dallas big man rotation this season and the Mavs might find him expendable considering they have Maxi Kleber under contract for less.

The Mavericks would also get Powell’s contract off their books, as he has two seasons remaining on his extension at just over $11 million per year.

The Mavs could take a chance that Redick will somewhat return to form (good luck!) but really they’d just be clearing some future cap space, which is why they would need to include a future pick to grease the wheels a bit.

This would definitely be the Pelicans selling low on J.J. Redick, but at this point, he isn’t going to get them much more in a trade.

Would the Pelicans consider this?
