New Orleans Pelicans: Dwight Powell could be a trade target for Pels
New Orleans Pelicans: Trading for Dwight Powell
If Powell was on the final year of his deal, as Redick is, then this would be a no-brainer, as the Pels need a shake-up and could use a guy who hustles.
Powell is that guy, as he will dive all over the floor, bring some defensive intensity and play hard, which are things the Pels don’t always do.
Powell’s hustle was recently credited with turning the Mavs’ season around and maybe he could do the same for the Pels.
The problem is that he is not on the final year of his deal so the Pels would be essentially making Powell their backup power forward for the next couple of years, so they’d have to believe he was a good fit behind Zion Williamson or even playing with him.
The Pels might not be interested in taking on any future salary, even with a pick attached.
But if they thought that Powell could give them quality minutes off the bench? Why not?
They are going to need bench depth either way and he could be a guy that provides some of the things they need.
Like I said, Powell isn’t going to make them into title contenders, but the New Orleans Pelicans need some type of shake up before the trade deadline, especially if they can bring back some size and defensive hustle.
The New Orleans Pelicans don’t need to make a blockbuster deal but they should be looking around the league for ways to balance their roster and improve their depth.
