New Orleans Pelicans: Kira Lewis Jr. needs more minutes

Kira Lewis Jr. has been one of the only Pelicans to show any heart over the last few games and he should be rewarded with more minutes.

He takes good shots, sets up his teammates, doesn’t turn the ball over much, and most importantly, gives effort on defense.

Lewis Jr.’s defense has been surprising this season, as he has been in passing lanes, getting deflections and using his quick hands to swipe steals.

He had four in the last game and steals lead to fast breaks. When the Pels get out and run they are hard to stop and Lewis Jr.’s perimeter defense can help.

He and Lonzo Ball form a nice defensive duo on the perimeter and will at least give effort if nothing else.

I’ve seen about enough of Bledsoe and Redick until they start playing defense regardless of how well they are shooting from behind the arc.

When your 19-year-old rookie is giving more effort than your veterans, that is a problem, but the Pelicans can take advantage and try to use this energy to inject some life into a team that desperately needs it.
