Pelicans vs. Grizzlies: Player Grades for the power forward and centers

ZION WILLIAMSON. A. . Power Forward. New Orleans Pelicans

My only complaint about Zion Williamson lately is that he is not getting enough shots.

Other than that, he has been spectacular offensively, racking up another 31 points on just 16 shot attempts.

He also added six assists, seven rebounds and was essentially playing point guard. Stan Van Gundy did a good job of keeping Zion moving, as he is almost impossible to stop once he gets rolling.

The only real way to defend Zion is to hope he catches the ball as a stationary target in the post. If he is moving with the ball or cutting off of it, there is not much anyone can do. It’s time to sit back and enjoy what this young man is doing because it is going to be part of the history books.

Center. New Orleans Pelicans. STEVEN ADAMS. A-.

Adams’ defense set the tone after a couple of uncharacteristically bad games for the big Kiwi.

Adams had two blocks and three steals to go along with his seven rebounds in only 24 minutes. HIs defense kept the Pels around in the first quarter before they were able to explode in the next three.

It seems like his defense and play are rubbing off on the next guy.

A. . Center. New Orleans Pelicans. WILLY HERNANGOMEZ

Willy Hernangomez is the bench player the Pels have been looking for all season.

I am still baffled how this guy was sitting behind Jaxson Hayes, as he has been very solid since becoming the Pels’ first big man off the bench.

Hernangomez got the Pels going in the second quarter, particularly on the offensive glass. He ended the night with eight rebounds total, six of which were offensive.

The Pels are first in the NBA in offensive boards, and Hernangomez is starting to get his. He’s also flashed a better than advertised offensive game, chipping in 14 in the win against Memphis.

The New Orleans Pelicans have been so inconsistent this season that it is way too early to know if this effort will carry over to the next one, but let’s hope Josh Hart’s strong words and play were the things that turn this season around.

Next. 5 Pels most likely to be traded before the deadline. dark
