Before the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Boston Celtics in their last game, I suggested that the two might be good trade partners before the deadline.
The Celtics are struggling and might want to shake things up, and the New Orleans Pelicans are always looking for ways to add the right kinds of players around Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram.
Some Boston Celtics‘ publications felt the same and proposed a couple of trades involving Kemba Walker.
In theory, I am not against the idea of Walker, as he is a smart, tough point guard with experience and since Lonzo Ball has been playing off the ball anyway, Kemba would be an upgrade over Eric Bledsoe.
But on the other hand, Walker doesn’t make much sense, as the Pels already have a trio of point guards, one of which is a rookie who may end up seizing the role in the future, especially if the Pelicans stupidly decide not to retain Lonzo Ball.
In addition, Walker is having his worst season since his rookie year and has missed a lot of games with injury, so his value has never been lower, especially when you consider he has two more seasons left on his contract at a whopping $36 and $37 million. Yikes.
He’s not that guy anymore and the Celtics wouldn’t be so keen to get rid of him if he was, which is why these proposed trades range from the absurd to the “no thank you.”
Here is what was offered and why the New Orleans Pelicans would laugh, hang up the phone and then throw the phone out the window.
