New Orleans Pelicans: 5 players on bad teams the Pels could target
Could the New Orleans Pelicans trade for Karl-Anthony Towns?
Karl-Anthony Towns has been through it this year and that is an understatement.
He has suffered a ton of family tragedy during the pandemic and I honestly have felt horrible for the guy.
On top of that, and much less importantly, he is on the worst team in basketball and possibly the NBA’s worst franchise.
The Timberwolves were not supposed to be this bad this season but with Towns and several other players missing time, they have not been able to get off the seven-win mark in the Western Conference.
The ‘Wolves aren’t likely to trade Towns but if he gets sick of losing and wants a change of environment, now might be the time to do it, as they can still get a haul and start yet another rebuild around #1 pick Anthony Edwards, who looks like a potential star.
But KAT already is a star, so it would take quite a lot to pry him away, but no player is untouchable for the right price.
On paper, he would be an ideal center to put next to Zion Wiliamson, as he does most of his damage away from the hoop and won’t clog up the lane.
This would be a blockbuster that could potentially swing the fortunes of two teams, so it’s probably not something that will happen before the deadline, but if I were David Griffin I’d be on the phone to see what it would take.
Getting unhappy players off bad teams is a good trade strategy and one that the New Orleans Pelicans could use before the March 25th deadline.
