New Orleans Pelicans: Who could the Pels trade for?

Of course, this is the juiciest part of the trade deadline. We’re all sitting on our phones constantly refreshing our Twitter timelines in hopes of getting that elusive notification stating that a certain player has moved to a certain team.

It is realistic to assume that the Pelicans have a high chance of being active in and around March 25. The roster’s construction was flawed to start and New Orleans’ front office needs to do everything possible to gain more flexibility while placing good pieces around Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram.

In my opinion, there’s a solid possibility that the Pelicans will move for a frontcourt player. Larry Nance Jr. is a contender and he would give the Pels a toolsy, creative forward who improves every season. Aaron Gordon is another option, although I have some hesitations about his outside shot and fit with Williamson.

If Bledsoe and Redick (or Ball) depart from the big easy, the Pelicans would need some backcourt reinforcements. I’d still give Dallas a call about Josh Richardson, while Trey Burke is another cheap option that fits in New Orleans. Wayne Ellington from the Detroit Pistons is someone I would inquire about, as well.

Lastly, the Pelicans need to stay alert and sniff out any opportunities that could arise.

Something that intrigues me is the option of getting involved in a multiteam trade. For instance, the Boston Celtics might be looking to stir things up for the second half of the season. The Pels could join in and try to reap the benefits of that.

Another organization of interest might be the Sacramento Kings, especially if they try to move Harrison Barnes or Buddy Hield. I also expect the Orlando Magic to explore every possibility available beyond just Aaron Gordon, with Evan Fournier also being someone that could intrigue the Pels.
