The New Orleans Pelicans are one of the most inconsistent teams in the NBA this season.
After defeating the Nuggets last night, they are now just 4.5 games back of the 8th seed in the Western Conference but have not shown that they can put together the type of win streak to get there.
It is more likely that they will end up in the lottery than the playoffs, which is disappointing but not unexpected considering their age as a team and the fact that they are trying to adjust to a new coach.
Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram have shown themselves to be the foundation of the franchise, while Lonzo Ball has probably done enough to join them even though his name continues to pop up in trade rumors.
The Pels need talent all over the place and would love to add some impact players in the 2021 NBA Draft.
David Griffin has not had the greatest draft history so far, so he will be desperate to add talent that has a recognizable fit and future with the team.
But where will the Pelicans be choosing in the draft?
New Orleans Pelicans: What picks will the Pelicans have in the draft?
If the draft were held today, the Pelicans would have one pick in the lottery that would be 9th if they didn’t move up.
They currently own what would be the 35th and 36th picks in the second round, so the New Orleans Pelicans will have a chance to add some talent.
The Lakers’ pick they are owed this season will likely be moved to next, as it is protected at #8-30 so it will be conveyed next season unless something crazy happens with the Lakers.
Here are two players who fall into that range, starting with a versatile small forward out of Michigan.
