Maybe it was the James Johnson-style t-shirt under the jersey that did it, but Lonzo Ball came out on fire in his first game back for the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Pels were still shorthanded with Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart on the bench with injuries and newly signed Isaiah Thomas still out our to COVID protocol in a game they needed to win against the Houston Rockets.

The Pelicans are inexplicably just a half game out of the play-in tournament for the playoffs and were on a two-game skid, so they needed someone to step up. Enter Lonzo Ball.

Ball put the team on his back and showed why the Pelicans need to re-sign him in the offseason. His efforts didn’t go unnoticed by his teammates, who were cheering him on from Twitter.

New Orleans Pelicans: Josh Hart enjoyed Lonzo Ball’s big night

Josh Hart is one of the Pelicans most prolific Tweeters, so it was not surprising when he started talking about Lonzo Ball’s hot shooting.

This is what we were all saying after Lonzo Ball knocked down all of his 3-point shots in the first quarter.

In case you didn’t know.

Stan Van Gundy agreed in the comments a few hours later.

Then newcomer Isaiah Thomas showed that he is already dialed in as a teammate and ready to join the New Orleans Pelicans as soon as he is out of quarantine.

It’s nice to see Hart and Thomas out there supporting their teammate. Hart is known for sticking up for his guys and recently dropped an expletive-filled rant in defense of Eric Bledsoe, a guy who has taken a lot of heat from Pelicans’ fans this season.

Let’s hope that Zion, Ingram and Hart return soon and that the New Orleans Pelicans can finish strong and in the playoffs, but until then, Lonzo Ball is ready to put on a show while they watch.
