The New Orleans Pelicans have had an up and down season that is likely going to end in another trip to the lottery.

Fans are very angry on social media, and while I understand the frustration, the amount of vitriol right now is completely unwarranted.

This is a team in year one of a rebuild with Zion Williamson, a young team with a new coach that had no offseason, Summer League and a shortened training camp.

Zion has emerged as the primary playmaker on this team and it has worked, but it took them half the season to figure out, something that might not had happened if they’d had more than a few weeks to get to know their new coach.

The Pelicans are 3.5 behind the Warriors and still have three games against them, so they still have a puncher’s chance at the play-in games, though it doesn’t look likely.

Not everything has gone to plan this season but there are still plenty of reasons to watch when the Pelicans take on the Clippers tonight.

New Orleans Pelicans: Enjoy Zion Williamson

Sometimes I don’t think Pelicans’ fans realize how lucky we are to have Zion Williamson. It took bucking some near Powerball odds in the lottery to even get him and he has somehow exceeded the insane expectations that were set for him in just his second season.

You are watching history right now, one of the best 20-year-olds to ever play the game, so sit back and enjoy it once in awhile because this doesn’t happen very often.

Zion is playing like an MVP candidate and may be one as soon as next season if this team makes a leap into the playoffs, which they very well could.

As Pelicans’ fans know all too well, superstars don’t last forever, so I for one am going to enjoy watching Zion Williamson play basketball even if the Pels aren’t winning.
