New Orleans Pelicans: Naji Marshall

One of the only bright spots from the Pelicans’ woeful bench this season has been the recent play of Naji Marshall, who went from undrafted to potentially a rotation player.

I thought he might be a gem when the Pels signed him to a two-way deal, as he has the kind of defensive versatility and motor this team is missing.

But Marshall has a much better all around game than I expected, especially as a playmaker. He makes smart reads, always seems to be in the right spot and doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective.

In other words, he’s the perfect type of player to put around Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, who still need to improve defensively and need guys who can cover multiple spots on the floor.

He’s been a pleasant surprise for a team that hasn’t had many of them and could offer the Pelicans a low-cost option for the roster next season.

I am looking forward to seeing what he can do for the rest of this one, as he looks like a keeper.
