New Orleans Pelicans: Don’t sign Lonzo Ball, trade Eric Bledsoe

There is a scenario where the Pelicans don’t bring either Lonzo Ball or Eric Bledsoe back.

If some team offers Lonzo a huge deal that the Pelicans are not willing or able to match, then they might let him walk in free agency.

They could still trade Bledsoe in this scenario, hopefully for a wing who can defend, which would leave NAW and Lewis Jr. as the starting backcourt.

This would be a risky option, especially in the case of Kira Lewis Jr. as he might not be ready to be the full-time starting point guard for the Pelicans at this stage in his career.

It would put a lot of pressure on he and NAW to produce right away, as fans are going to get restless with the losing and the Pelicans want to get in the playoffs.

But if the Pelicans don’t feel they can make the complementary moves to construct a playoff-ready roster, then going with the full-on youth movement is an option.

This scenario gives he Pels one of the youngest starting fives in the NBA and may set back their timeline for making the playoffs depending on what else they did.
