The New Orleans Pelicans won’t be taking part in tonight’s NBA play-in tournament but they will definitely be watching.

Not only do tonight’s games feature several of their rivals, but they also have a slew of potential free agents for the New Orleans Pelicans to keep an eye on.

The Spurs will take on the Grizzlies in a matchup of two of the Pels’ division rivals snd the Lakers will face the Warriors in what will undoubtedly be one of the most watched games of the season.

Here are some free agents from each team that might interest the New Orleans Pelicans.

New Orleans Pelicans: Potential free agents from the San Antonio Spurs

Trey Lyles

Lyles has had an up and down season mostly due to injury. He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and the Spurs may let him walk after he took a step backwards. His numbers were down across the board after his minutes were cut. He’s not the type of player the New Orleans Pelicans really need, but there may be some interest if the price is right.

Patty Mills

The veteran backup point guard is going to be an unrestricted free agent as well, and the Pels would be lucky to have him as a veteran scoring presence off the bench. It’s hard to imagine him leaving San Antonio, so I could see him returning on a veteran’s minimum unless someone else wants to offer him more. The Pelicans need tough, veterans to fill out their bench but Mills will probably be too pricey for what he is and likely wants to stay in Texas anyway.

DeMar DeRozan

DeRozan is one of the most interesting free agents this season. Everyone keeps talking about how he doesn’t fit the modern game and DeRozan just keeps scoring 20+ points per game and proving them wrong. He is now 31-years-old but improved playmaking made this one of the best seasons of his career. The Pelicans could definitely use a shooting guard who can actually score, and if they were able to get rid of Eric Bledsoe, DeRozan might be a good fit. But he’s likely to get a big deal from someone, so I don’t see it. The Pelicans could use a guy like him but they might be one year away from making a move for this type of veteran.
