New Orleans Pelicans: Potential free agents from the Golden State Warriors
Kevon Looney
Kevon Looney has a player option for just over five million, so he will probably exercise it unless he knew he could make more on the open market.
He’s a middling center who doesn’t provide the type of defense or shot blocking that the New Orleans Pelicans need, so I don’t see much interest here and Looney would be insane not to pick u up that option.
Kelly Oubre Jr.
The Pelicans reportedly tried to trade Lonzo Ball for Oubre Jr. at the deadline, though I think this rumor was pretty much nonsense, as it had the Pels also kicking in a first-round pick.
If the Warriors actually did turn this down, they are nuts.
Oubre Jr. might interest the Pelicans, as he plays a position of need, had a pretty good season and is just entering his prime. The problem is that he might get a fat raise from someone and end up making $20 million per season, which I think would be a huge overpay.
He doesn’t shoot the 3-point shot well enough for that kind of dough, so the Pelicans will probably not be players in the Oubre market unless his price plummets because of his late-season injury.
