NBA Free Agents: Mike Conley, Utah Jazz

Mike Conley is 33-years old but is having one of the best seasons of his career. He is averaging 16.2 points and six assists while playing outstanding defense.

He had the most defensive win shares in the NBA this season and averaged 1.4 steals per game.

Conley’s 3-point shooting improved to over 41 percent on 6.6 attempts per game, both career highs, so he potentially ticks a lot of boxes for the Pelicans.

He defends, he can shoot from the perimeter and make plays, he’s tough and he’s a veteran who knows how to win.

The problem is that he is 33-years-old and will probably still get a massive contract this offseason as an unrestricted free agent. I am sure there will be some mutual interest in Utah, but Conley might still be able to net a huge short-term deal on the open market.

Conley would really only be an option if the Pels shook things up and radically changed their roster, but he would be a great fit with Zion Williamson and the perfect mentor for Kira Lewis Jr., who has a similar game.

The Utah Jazz were one of the best teams in the NBA this season, partly because they had the right mix of young stars and veteran skill, which is what the New Orleans Pelicans are looking for.
